Gooooood moooorniiiiing everyoneeeee!!!!
Today, it’s my pleasure to introduce you to a talented new member of our Software Development Team: please say hello to Simon-Pierre Miron! Simon-Pierre is skilled, motivated, passionate — and just as importantly, he’s GREAT at foosball, which as you may know is a big deal here at Devolutions!
I recently had a get-to-know-you chat with Simon-Pierre. Here’s a snapshot of our conversation:
Can you tell me a bit about your background?
I’m in the process of finishing my college diploma in programming at the Cegep Régional de Lanaudière à Joliette, and am excited about launching my career in the software development field.
What was it about Devolutions that made you want to work here?
The people are very friendly and helpful, and the environment is relaxed — although everyone works hard. The opportunity was exactly what I wanted to do with my career, and it’s not too far from where I live, which is a nice bonus.
What would you say are your top three strengths at work?
First, I’d say that I’m resourceful. Whenever I encounter a problem that cannot be solved based on what I already know, I try to find the answer on my own. Second, I’d say that I’m a fast learner, and can adapt to take on new tasks, even on short notice. Third, I’d say that I’m a good team member, and am happy to help my colleagues whenever they need me.
What tasks do you carry out in your job, and what are some of the tools that you use?
I mostly write front-end code, which is compiled in a browser, such as Google Chrome or Safari. I also create server-side code to make sure that it interacts properly with the client-side code.
What are your impressions about working here?
Everyone here has a lot of independence and autonomy. There is no micro-management. As long as you get your work done — or ask for help if you need it — then you are free to set your own pace. I also really like the fact that everyone here is obsessed with making sure products are robust and tested before they’re released. In some other companies, developers are sometimes forced to patch things in a hurry to meet a release deadline. That never happens here.
What goals would you like to achieve at Devolutions?
My first goal here at Devolutions is helping the company continue on the path that it is already on: the path to success! While doing so, I also plan on improving my coding skills, and learning from my experienced and talented colleagues.
On a personal note, what are some of your hobbies and interests?
I’m interested in pretty much everything that has to do with computers, such as gaming and new technologies. I also like rock/metal music, but I can listen to almost anything. I like sports, but sometimes I get so busy that I’m not as active as I’d like. And yes, I like foosball, too!
Please share a few words with our community of IT pros:
Everyone here works extremely hard to release products that we’re proud of, and that meet your expectations for quality and performance. We never take your support for granted, and always try to do things better. Make sure you give us your feedback, because we’re always listening to you.
