It’s my pleasure to share that we’ve welcomed yet another great addition to the Devolutions Family: please say hello to Mario Beaulieu, our new Senior Software Developer!
Recently, I had a Q&A with Mario and here’s a snapshot of that conversation:
Can you tell me a bit about your professional background?
I have over 20 years of experience in system development and software product development, and consulted for several years on telecommunications and system integration. My expertise is mainly designing and developing real-time, multi-platform system integration. I also have a background in electrical engineering, but early on in my career I shifted towards the world of software R & D.
What would you say is your biggest professional achievement so far?
A few years ago, I was a main contributor to the Quebec Ministry of Transport’s project management system for highway traffic. My role was to coordinate the development of the central SCADA data collection for the Ministry in their new control center in downtown Montreal.
What was it about Devolutions that made you want to work here?
I first heard about Devolutions about 2 years ago, as the company was and still is generating a lot of positive attention in this area because of its energy and growth. I started paying closer attention to Devolutions, and saw that it continued to innovate and position itself as a leader in its field. Towards the end of last year, I was looking for a new professional challenge and I contacted David Hervieux. So you could say that the innovative culture of Devolutions is what made me want to work here.
What would you say are your top three strengths at work?
I have a very good grasp of the interactions between different subsets of a project, and a meticulous eye for detail with respect to software development. My years of experience in consulting have also given me a strong ability to focus on the needs and requests of clients, which also helps me in my daily work with colleagues.
What tasks do you carry out in your job, and what are some of the tools that you use?
My work focuses on the draft protocol layer, and developing Linux in C language with Eclipse and Visual Studio on Windows. Currently, I’m working on a new software development project that should be released in the summer of 2016. It involves project data exchanges between workstations – but it’s a surprise, so I don’t want to say more than this!
What are your impressions about working here?
The working environment is very collaborative and cooperative. Everyone works hard and is dedicated, but also knows how to relax when needed. I even attended my first foosball tournament a few weeks ago. It was very enjoyable!
What goals would you like to achieve at Devolutions?
I would simply like to help my new team members to the best of my ability.
On a personal note, what are some of your hobbies and interests?
I enjoy playing different sports, such as cycling, golf and some forms of martial arts such as Qi Gong and Tai Chi. I’m also interested in the world of music and photography, and hope to do more of that soon.
