Since a few folks might “have a case of the Mondays” today, I thought we could start with a little joke. Ready? Here it goes:
An SQL query goes into a bar.
It walks up to two tables, and says: can I join you?
Now, if this makes no sense to you, then alas, you aren’t a Software Developer. But if you’re smiling — or maybe groaning — then you, indeed, are a glorious and triumphant Software Developer, just like the newest member of our team: Samuel Desrosiers-Théroux!
I recently had the chance to chat with Samuel to learn more about his experience, his role here at Devolutions, and his hobbies. Here is a look at our conversation:
Can you tell me a bit about your background?
I studied IT in school, where I completed a Diploma of Vocational Studies in the Integrated Secondary College Program at CFP Des Riverains, which is a suburb of Montreal. I also have a degree in television and cinema, and I worked as a broadcast technician for a French-Canadian TV company for 6 years, before going back to school to learn programming.
What would you say is your biggest achievement?
I would say it is going back to school at 27 years old after 6 years in the professional world. I was missing some math courses because we didn’t have to do them in the Diploma of Vocational Studies program, so I had to take online courses, and I completed them in less than a year.
What was it about Devolutions that made you want to work here?
I have some friends on social media who were saying some positive things about Devolutions, such as how it was a company that really takes care of its employees, and that the working environment is very good.
What would you say are your top three strengths at work?
First, I like to solve problems and look for solutions. Second, I like to always learn new things, which is a must when you work in IT. And third, I’m a hard worker.
What tasks do you carry out in your job, and what are some of the tools you use?
Currently, I’m working on the Devolutions Server team. I help fix bugs that are reported by our QA team, and I implement new features. I work mostly with Webstorm and Visual Studio, and I code in C# and Typescript.
What is your impression of working here?
It has been great, and I couldn’t ask for a better opportunity at this stage of my career as a programmer. I have been warmly welcomed to the team, and the company really cares about us.
What goals would you like to achieve at Devolutions?
I want to increase my knowledge, learn new things from my co-workers, and contribute to the growth of the company.
On a personal note, what are some of your hobbies and interests?
I play a lot of soccer and indoor hockey, which is also called floor hockey. I also like video games, board games, camping, and everything related to IT. I’m currently working on a home automation setup with Home Assistant.
Please share a few words with our community of IT pros:
I’m proud to be a part of the company that makes your life easier at work!
